The Scottish midfielder opened the scoring after 42 minutes against Cagliari, before Romelu Lukaku doubled the advantage just after half-time to ensure Napoli would cruise to the title. Antonio Conte's side knew that a win would seal the club's second Scudetto in three seasons and McTominay guaranteed they would made no mistake and hand the crown to Inter. The former Manchester United player has been a revelation in Italy and was named the league's MVP on Friday night. The victory prompted wild celebrations in Naples as fireworks lit up the night sky.

A shrine to the Scotsman has been built in Naples and he has become a fan favourite in a phenomenal debut season in which he has scored 12 goals and registered six assists in Serie A. His performances, alongside fellow United castaway Lukaku, have been crucial to revitalising Napoli and firing them to the title.

It is going to be hard for McTominay to top this season. He will join up with the Scottish national team next month before taking a break ahead of the new campaign. After such a successful debut year, McTominay may be eyeing up European success.
