Former Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has been interviewed for the vacant position as manager of the Swedish national team.

Solskjaer, who has been out of work since his sacking as manager of United, has been interviewed with a view to taking over duties as the head coach of Sweden. Previous boss Janne Andersson stepped down after failing to qualify for Euro 2024, and his replacement does not need to be Swedish or have managed in Sweden previously, according to Fotbollskanalen. The former Norwegian striker is yet to venture into international management but may be tempted by this new opportunity.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Despite earning some plaudits for the job he did at Old Trafford, Solskjaer is yet to find a new job since his departure at the end of 2021. Solskjaer has been linked with a a number of jobs, but has yet to take up another post. With Sweden not playing in Euro 2024, Solskjaer would be tasked with qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Should Solskjaer be named as the new Swedish head coach, he will inherit a squad disappointed by missing out on qualifying for the European Championship. A lot of work will need to be done to ensure World Cup qualification is secured.
